Brașov 2

Back in Brașov having parked the car back at the hotel we took our umbrellas and headed into town for the final evening.  It really was a miserable one too with steady rain falling most of the time.

This Orthodox Church near our hotel which we'd driven past on our way out of town but unfortunately we couldn't go in as there was a clutch of little old ladies protecting the place.

The running track looked more like a lake tonight.

This isn't just another Orthodox Church but the oldest Orthodox Church in Transylvania!  Originally built of wood in 1392 it was rebuilt in stone in 1495, like other medieval churches it is surrounded by walls with large wooden gates.

Walking back into the main square there seemed to be a concert going on.  The singer had a fabulous voice but OMG was it loud and every song she sang sounded the same - very Eurovision style.

Fountain opposite the Town Hall

And the Town Hall again from two different sides.

We wandered around the craft stalls and a couple of them looked quite interesting.  Fancy ceramic tea light holders on this one.

And every possible item that could be made from straw on this one.

Ian's research said the walk along the river was rather nice, unfortunately tonight in the rain it wasn't and I suspect it was a lie anyway.

All around stalls and platforms were being set up so presumably there was a big event happening over the weekend but it meant I couldn't take many photos.

By now it was raining hard so we stopped off for an early dinner in a nice little restaurant just off the main square, hoping the rain would stop by the time we finished.  It did to a degree but by then all the bars around the main square had stacked their outside chairs, either because of the rain or maybe the event in the square.  The music was too loud to listen to comfortably anyway so we decided to call it a night and head back up the hill to our hotel.

Before leaving Brașov tomorrow we planned to get the cable car up Mount Tampa and if possible walk to the Brașov sign and enjoy the view.  It was unclear what time the service started running so we spoke to the male receptionist who said quite frankly that given the weather forecast it probably wouldn't run anyway.  It seemed though that there was no website we could check on in the morning for a definitive answer.

And so to bed.
